Welcome
Jim Iverson for Skokie 4th District Trustee
Truly Invested, Truly Local, Truly Independent.
Truly Invested, Truly Local, Truly Independent.
Dear friends and neighbors, Eddie Olivieri's letter about our election campaigns is wonderful, and I am so grateful to him. None-the-less, I am going to wait until this evening or tomorrow morning for the final results.
Please take a moment to read Eddie's letter, if you have not already. It is inspirational. Facebook
I want to protect the character of our village as a warm, welcoming place where we care for one another and enjoy our neighborhoods. I want to support our homeowners, tenants, small businesses, and small landlords, and I want to help us find common purpose
In deals and negotiations, I follow the Rotary Club’s four-way test: is it the truth, is it fair, is it beneficial to all parties, does it build good-will.
Our family believes in service. In our sons we have an Army Captain, a Nursing Home CNA, an Army Sergeant, and an Army Lieutenant. My wife served with Catholic Charities, and I was in the Peace Corps.
I am independent and balanced, not ideological; I believe in Skokie and love being here; I am committed to my community.
• I am truly invested,
• truly local,
• truly independent.
The formation of electoral districts and district trustees created an avenue for people to communicate with our village. Engagement with the residents, businesses, and organizations of Skokie will improve our decision making, so we want to maximize dialog and involvement. I will maintain easy ways for people to reach me (in person, by phone, by mail, or electronically), so that the people of the Skokie 4th District can be heard and their issues resolved.
Many of us love the small-town character of Skokie, where your barber knows your children, your waiter knows your favorite order, and your banker plays accordion at your birthday party. Small businesses and small landlords are critical to that character, providing vibrancy and variety to our community, but they are under great pressure, and it is getting worse year by year. I will help the Village understand their needs.
The Village Board evaluates and votes on issues facing Skokie – TIF Districts, capital spending, water management, pest control, etc. The judgement I gained from engineering, consulting, running businesses, and over a quarter century in sales, will help me strike deals for Skokie that are fair and beneficial to all of us.
Our decisions must consider effects on our property values far into the future. Property values reflect the strength of our village, and the long-term strength of our village depends on the strength and stability of our institutions, our businesses, and our community.
We are blessed with outstanding assets: our schools, our police and fire departments, our library, our park district, our village government. We need to bring our community and our institutions together in every way and at every opportunity. We need to support our institutions while also providing diligent oversight.
The strength of our community comes from commitment. The joy of our community comes from the time we spend together. The beauty of our community comes from our diversity. Our community is unique and special, and we need to celebrate that. When some interests seek to pull us apart, we need to look first to our neighbors. We do not always agree, but we need to commit to one another.
Our family believes in service. We moved to Skokie for Skokie’s excellent schools, affordable housing, and charm. My wife Gloria teaches special education, we have four grown sons, and I have a small sales and marketing company. We are Skokie landlords. We ran Mini Man Monkey Brains candy store and Nixie art gallery in downtown Skokie, and my company F&I Marketing is in downtown Skokie. We are active at St. Peter Catholic Church. Our family believes in service and especially service of those with intellectual disabilities.
I earned a BS in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Illinois and was a Caldwell Fellow in Mathematics at Northwestern. I left college for the U.S. Peace Corps, where I served in Botswana, teaching math and science, coaching sports teams, advising the Scripture Union, chopping a 400m track from the bush, etc.
I came home and worked as an engineer in nuclear stations, first for ABB Impel, then Pacific Nuclear, then Corrosion Services. I invented and developed the software FAC Manager that is used across the world to monitor and mitigate pipe degradation (flow-accelerated corrosion, FAC) in nuclear stations.
I worked for Utilities International as a management consultant, where I helped electric utilities manage their business and assets. We were well-known for the custom software we developed for them.
Today I run my small sales and marketing company F&I Marketing, now based here in Skokie. We broker relationships between retailers (especially Walgreens) and CPG vendors. Our business depends on trusted relationships, careful planning, and problem solving.
We broker and manage a large volume of deals between our clients, our customers, and us, and we stick to the four-way test.
My wife Gloria served with Catholic Charities while she earned her degree in Education with a minor in Art. She has since earned her Master's in Special Education, and she very successfully created the candy store Mini Man Monkey Brains and the art gallery Nixie Gallery as charities to serve the Intellectually Disabled Community. Gloria has received several awards including the Cook County Unsung Heroine Award from Cook County President Tony Preckwinkle and the Alumni Service Award from Northeastern University. She is also an Academic All American and a Hall of Fame Athlete at DePaul University.
Our son David is a Captain in the US Army and an MD doing his medical residency at Fort Cavazos. Our son Nick works at Citadel Nursing Home in Skokie as a Certified Nursing Assistant. Our son Sam finished his US Army contract as a Sergeant and is completing his Electrical Engineering degree. Our son Isaiah is a Lieutenant in the US Army and a Civil Engineer in the Ordnance Corps.
We are happy to be active parishioners of St. Peter Catholic Church where I usher, teach Religious Education, and belong to the Knights of Columbus and the Men’s Club. The people and institutions who serve people with intellectual disabilities (ID) are very important to our family. We have raised funds to support them, especially through the Knights of Columbus. We opened Mini Man Monkey Brains and Nixie Gallery to serve the ID community; all our boys worked there, and Nick worked there full-time before earning his CNA certificate.
We are blessed to have Will’s Place as a tenant and neighbor. They are remarkable at providing jobs to intellectually disabled people in a supportive, nurturing environment while maintaining the highest standards of performance and professionalism – so many jobs, such a fun place to be, and the food is great!
